This white home knit gamer by CCM was worn by Bernie Nicholls during the 1988-89 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings selected Nicholls in the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. Nicholls made his NHL debut in 1981-82 with the Kings where he played for parts of 9 seasons before being dealt to the New York Rangers during the 1989-90 campaign. Bernie went onto play for the Rangers, Oilers, Devils, Blackhawks and Sharks before calling it quits after 18 NHL seasons. In a career that spanned 1127 games, Nicholls retired with 475 goals, 734 assists and 1209 points. Bernie was a three-time NHL All Star who was traded by the Kings in his prime. At the time Bernie was Los Angeles’ 5th all-time leading scorer. Merely a few years later, the Rangers dealt Nicholls to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Hall of Famer Mark Messier. Bernie remains one of only 8 players in NHL history to score 70 goals in a season and one of only five players to record 150 points in a season.
The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, a salted fight strap, inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. Nicholls wore this sweater during one of the most prolific seasons in NHL history, as he lit the lamp 70 times and added 80 assists for an incredible 150 points. Bernie registered an 8-point game that memorable season, becoming one of only 13 players to do so in NHL history. A terrific offering from the first season of the defunct silver and black era in LA in what turned out to be a record setting season for the All Star center. This jersey was worn during the first part of the season where the players names were sewn directly onto the jerseys. The second half of the season the players names were sewn onto a patch and than onto the jersey.
