These beautiful handmade juniper wood toggles are cut from the dead branches of the western juniper tree. The western juniper grows from Canada to Mexico. Where I live is the northern extreme of the trees' growing range thus our local juniper grows very slowly. A two inch round branch can attain an age of 50 to 60 years. This causes the annular (growth) ring to be very tight causing the wood to be quite robust in structure. The spectrum of colors can be intense from deep purples to bright red with an amber to white outer cambia (layer).
