    THIS CHEROKEE 140 IS READY TO GO AND NEEDS NO REPAIR!
    THE ANNUAL WAS PERFORMED IN FEBRUARY OF 2021, SO IT HAS UNTIL MARCH 1ST, 2022 BEFORE ANOTHER ANNUAL IS REQUIRED!
    ALTHOUGH THE 0-320 LYCOMING 150 H.P. ENGINE HAS 1,894 HOURS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL, IT ONLY HAS 219 HOURS ON 4 BRAND NEW LYCOMING NITRIDED CYLINDERS!!
    AS YOU WOULD EXPECT, THE COMPRESSIONS AT THE ANNUAL WERE EXCELLENT!
    A 140 IS AN EXCELLENT ENTRY LEVEL, FIRST-TIME AIRPLANE, SUITABLE FOR FLIGHT TRAINING (TO GET YOUR LICENSE) OR TIME BUILDING FOR A LOW TIME OR RECENT PRIVATE PILOT, OR MAYBE SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN OUT OF FLYING FOR A WHILE AND WANTS TO GET BACK IN WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK!
    THIS AIRPLANE HAS SOME VERY NICE, SPECIAL “TOUCHES”, AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT FOR AN AIRPLANE THAT I SET UP FOR MY OWN DAUGHTER TO FLY!!
    MY MIDDLE DAUGHTER IS A LOW TIME (90 HOUR) PRIVATE PILOT, WHO LEARNED TO FLY IN CHEROKEES (LIKE I DID).
    SHE IS ALSO A MECHANICAL ENGINEER WHO WORKS FOR BOEING, SO SHE IS NO PUSHOVER!
    SHE IS IN A BOEING PROGRAM THAT GIVES CERTAIN ENGINEERS THE CHANCE TO TRY OUT MULTIPLE BOEING PROGRAMS AND LOCATIONS FOR 6 MONTH STINTS.
    THIS WINTER SHE INFORMED ME SHE WOULD BE ASSIGNED AT THE FIRST OF THE YEAR TO BOEING’S PLANT IN MESA ARIZONA, WHICH IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FALCON FIELD AIRPORT. SHE DIDN’T ASK, BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE NEAT IF I COULD FIND AN AIRPLANE FOR HER TO USE WHILE SHE WAS THERE.
    THIS CHEROKEE 140 CAME ALONG, AND IT HAD SOME NICE OPTIONS, WHICH I THOUGHT WOULD BE NICE FOR HER, SO I HAD IT ANNUALED IN MINNESOTA AND ADDED A FEW IMPROVEMENTS HERE AND THERE FROM MY STOCK, AND WE FLEW IT TO PHOENIX TOGETHER (A MEASURABLE PORTION OF THE FLIGHT WAS FLOWN ABOVE 10,000 FEET, AND WE MADE A TAKE-OFF AND LANDING AT A DENSITY ALTITUDE OF 9,600 FEET! THE LITTLE CHEROKEE HANDLED IT ALL WITHOUT ANY ISSUES!
    MY DAUGHTER USED THE AIRPLANE FOR FLIGHTS AROUND ARIZONA UNTIL HER TRANSFER TO TEXAS, AND JUST WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HER FLYING THE PLANE TO TEXAS TO USE, SHE GOT ANOTHER ASSIGNMENT, IN SEATTLE, FOR AN UNKNOWN LENGTH OF TIME.
    THE AIRPLANE HAS ONLY BEEN SITTING SINCE THE END OF JUNE, BUT SINCE SHE DOESN’T REALLY KNOW WHEN SHE MIGHT BE BACK FOR IT, WE DECIDED WE WOULD SELL IT AND MAYBE REPLACE IT WHEN SHE GET A MORE PERMANENT POSTING IN THE FUTURE.
    SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A RECOMMENDATION OF AN AIRPLANE THAT I WOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE FLYING MYSELF (I HAVE 22 HOURS IN THIS PLANE PERSONALLY), OR BETTER STILL ONE I WOULD PUT MY 25 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN TO FLY BY HERSELF (SHE HAS 26 HOURS IN THIS AIRPLANE), I GUESS THIS WOULD BE THE ONE!!
    DURING AND JUST AFTER THE ANNUAL, WE UPGRADED THE AIRPLANE WITH THE FOLLOWING:
    ALL LED LIGHTS, INCLUDING WINGTIPS, SMALL TAIL STROBE AND LANDING LIGHT.
    NEW 1/4” SIDE GLASS FOR THE PILOT AND COPILOT WINDOWS, IN SOLAR GREY AND BOTH WINDOWS HAVE OPENING CALL/VENT WINDOWS IN THEM (BETTER FOR VENTILATION AND THE THICK WINDOWS CUT DOWN ON NOISE AND THE TINT HELPS KEEP THE INSIDE COOLER).
    THE WINDSHIELDS WERE ALREADY UPGRADED SOLAR GREY 1/4" UNITS FROM 2006!
    MODERN DIGITAL KING COMM WITH 10 CHANNEL MEMORY AND FLIP-FLOP
    DIGITAL NARCO TRANSPONDER
    UAVIONICS TAILBEACON FOR ADSB “OUT”, WHICH ALLOWS FOR ADSB “IN” (WE USED A STRATUS FOR WEATHER AND TRAFFIC IN), (stratus NOT INCLUDED HERE).
    GARMIN PANEL DOCK AND ANTENNA AND GARMIN GPS 396 COLOR MOVING MAP MOUNTED RIGHT IN THE CENTER STACK.
    THIS AIRPLANE ALREADY HAD SOME NICE FEATURES THAT ARE SELDOM FOUND ON ENTRY LEVEL CHEROKEES, WHICH MADE IT INTERESTING FOR ME TO GIVE TO MY DAUGHTER TO USE IN THE FIRST PLACE:
    S.T.C. ADDED SHOULDER HARNESS SEATBELTS FOR THE FRONT SEATERS (A MUST FOR SAFETY, BUT NOT STANDARD ON MOST AIRPLANES UNTIL WAY INTO THE 1070’S)
    REAR SEATS (MANY CHEROKEE 140’S DIDN’T HAVE THEM). YOU AREN’T GOING TO PUT 2, 6 FOOT 200 POUNDERS BACK THERE AND HAVE THEM BE COMFORTABLE, BUT THE SEATS ARE COMFORTABLE ENOUGH THEMSELVES AND OF COURSE THEY HAVE SEATBELTS, SO IT WILL FLY 4.
    AN ALMOST MUST-HAVE OPTION FOR A 140 WITH 4 SEATS IS THE FIBERGLASS “HAT SHELF” BAGGAGE AREA EXTENSION. IT PUSHES THE REAR BULKHEAD BACK ENOUGH SO THAT YOU CAN PUT STUFF BEHIND THE SEATS ON THE FLOOR (WITHOUT IT THE REAR SEATS TOUCH THE BULKHEAD, WITH ZERO ROOM) AND THE “HAT SHELF” PORTION IS HANDY FOR THAT LIGHT STUFF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT SOMEWHERE.
    WE UPDATED A FEW OF THE FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS AND REPLACED THE INOP CENTURY AUTOPILOT WITH A FRESH YELOW TAGGED SYSTEM, AND NOW IT WORKS GREAT!
    THIS IS A SIMPLE WING LEVELER, BUT IT IS SO RARE TO HAVE ANY AUTOPILOT IN A 140.
    IT MAKES REACHING INTO THE BACK FOR A SANDWICH OR RELAXING ON A LONG CROSS-COUNTRY LESS OF A CHORE!
    THIS AIRPLANE ALSO HAS TOE BRAKES, FOR EYES UP BRAKING AND EASY TAXIING.
    METCO-STYLE WINGTIPS, ADD TO THE CRUISE SPEED AND GIVE BETTER CONTROL AT LOW SPEED.
    WHEEL PANTS ALL AROUND, ADD TO THE CRUISE SPEED OF COURSE, BUT MOSTLY THEY MAKE THE AIRPLANE LOOK BETTER AND LESS LIKE A FLIGHT SCHOOL HACK! (WE REPLACED THE NOSE PANT WITH AN UNDAMAGED ONE, HENCE NO STRIPES ADDED YET)
    IF IT HAS WHEEL PANTS, IT IS A PERSONAL BIRD!
    SO THIS AIRPLANE IS A GOOD, SOLID, READY TO GO AIRPLANE.
    WHAT IT ISN’T IS PRETTY!
    THERE IS SOME HAIL ON ALL TOP SURFACES, MOST VISIBLE ON THE AILERONS AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. LIGHT AND SCATTERED, STRICTLY COSMETIC, NOT AN AIRWORTHINESS ITEM, AND THE AIRPLANE WAS ANNUALED WITHOUT HESITATION OR CONCERN AFTER THE HAIL EVENT.
    THE PAINT HAS BEEN “LOVED TO DEATH” OVER THE YEARS.
    ALL OF THE HIGH TOUCH AREAS ARE MISSING PAINT (TOP OF THE DOOR WHERE YOUR HAND TOUCHES IT ON ENTRY, OUTBOARD EDGES OF THE WINGS AND AILERONS WHERE YOU MIGHT RUB OFF SOME MORNING FROST (THE AIRPLANE WAS BASED IN MAINE BEFORE I GOT IT)
    OBVIOUSLY WHITE WITH DARK BLUE STRIPING, BUT THE PAINT IS THIN ENOUGH IN SOME AREAS THAT IT APPEARS TO BE POLISHED BARE ALUMINUM. I SUGGESTED MY DAUGHTER COULD WORK ON THE APPEARANCE, EITHER BY REMOVING THE EXISTING THIN PAINT AND GOING ALUMINUM (A SCOTCH BRITE PAD, WITHOUT CHEMICALS, WORKED WELL ON THE SMALL AREAS WE TESTED IT ON), OR WITH TOUCH-UP PAINT AND MASKING TAPE ON SOME OF THE OBVIOUS AREAS.
    IN THE END, SHE DID NEITHER, BEING HAPPY WITH THE AIRPLANE AND NOT WORRIED ABOUT IMPRESSING ANYONE WITH THE LOOKS.
    SO YOU COULD DO ANY OF THE 3, (POLISH SOME, PAINT SOME, OR LEAVE IT, DEPENDING ON YOUR AVAILABLE TIME AND PERSONAL PREFERENCES.
    THE ONLY ISSUE WE HAD ON THE TRIP OUT TO ARIZONA WAS THE PHOENIX CONTROLLER GOT AN ERRONEOUS READING FROM OUR ALTITUDE ENCODER, SO I ORDERED HER A BRAND NEW ONE AND SHE HAD IT REPLACED.
    SHE HAD THE OIL CHANGED ONCE, AND THAT HAS BEEN THE ONLY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE.
    I TOOK THESE PICTURES JUST OVER A WEEK AGO, SINCE I WAS OUT IN PHOENIX ON ANOTHER MATTER ANYWAY.
    THE AIRPLANE IS READY TO GO, I KNOW OF NOTHING MORE THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!
    IT SERVED HER PURPOSES AND IS READY TO SERVE YOURS.
    SOLD WITH LOGBOOKS FOR THE AIRFRAME SINCE BRAND NEW, THE ENGINE SINCE NEW, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, FLIGHT MANUAL, AND AD COMPLIENCE SHEETS.
    AND THE FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE!
    AND THE KEYS!
    IT IS REGISTERED TO ONE OF MY COMPANYS, AND WE WILL PROVIDE A VALID FAA BILL OF SALE WITH THE AIRPLANE!
